Chapter 2: Chamber Door

Guided by a shadow in flight, they stumble from the cemetery and make their way towards a destination of the bird's choosing. Justin's shaking badly, either from the shock of being alive—dead—alive or from being nearly barefoot in twenty degree weather. Finally Brian lifts his lover and carries him over Justin's protests. He's used to going barefoot in the loft. Besides, he's dead. The cold can only kill him. Again. Read more... )

Well, yesterday I fell down the steps leaving my apartment for work. It's bad enough that I hurt my knee two months ago and am currently engaging in physical therapy for it but to fall down on top of that is just too much. I don't know whether I was distracted or if my knee just gave out but there I went. Today, of course, I'm sore and stiff. Really should have soaked last night but I was too busy procrastinating instead of working on the new fic. Of course, considering the miniscule amount of feedback I've been receiving regarding recent stories, I'm beginning to wonder: why bother? I've never been a feedback whore and I like working on the web but if no one's reading the stories, then I might as well save myself some time and energy and just write them for myself or just think about them and not bother writing them down. Maybe I/the stories have become complacent and so the audience has responded in kind. I also know that during the season most people concentrate on the show but there are so many other writers out there who are still garnering response to their work that it may be time for me to close up shop and move on to something else. I've never been an active/vocal member of the QAF community so it really shouldn't come as a surprise to me that the community has moved on and I've been left behind. Like QAF itself, maybe my run is over. This will, undoubtedly, come across as a pity party plea but I figure since I've got this freakin' LJ, why not ramble/kvetch?

La Liaison Amoureuse Part 2

Having touched down in Pittsburgh, Brian and Justin collected their luggage and caught a cab to Lindsay’s house. He’d called her from St. Croix to tell her he was dropping in to see Gus and was bringing a guest. She hadn’t quizzed him on the phone but he could tell she’d wanted to. He knew he’d have to answer a shitload of questions once he arrived with Justin in tow. And how could he explain? What exactly was Justin to him? They weren’t lovers yet they were more than friends. Less than friends with benefits.

La Liaison Amoureuse

Maybe he would be enjoying himself if Colin were there with him but Colin had to work, same as he did, only Colin’s work happened to be back in San Francisco and not on St. Croix where Brian was enjoying (relatively speaking) an all-expense paid vacation courtesy of the resort in order to come up with a brilliant, new marketing campaign. No, Colin was up to his elbows in paperwork for the latest acquisition (i.e., takeover) his company was handling and couldn’t spare a week to get away with his lover. “You have your work and I have mine,” he’d said and sent Brian off with a kiss and an admonition to “play safe”. Brian did not doubt that, if the occasion arose, Colin would take advantage of his lover’s absence to sample San Francisco’s finest and he fully expected to do the same on St. Croix and then return to their loft ready to resume their life together. They’d been a couple for a few years now, having met when Brian’s firm was attempting to woo Colin’s company away from their current advertisers. The company's partners had been suitably impressed and had retained Brian’s firm and Colin had been suitably impressed and had asked Brian out. Six months later they had put their much smaller respective places up for sale and purchased an immense loft on the Central Waterfront not too far from the Financial District and the Embarcadero.

As he usually did when Daphne was getting ready for a date, Justin sat on her bed and played critic. Actually, he agreed with whatever she said. It was safer that way. He was still young and he had no intention of spending his college years as a frog. Literally. Of course, he could cast a counter spell. If he were using his powers. But he wasn’t. So he played nice because she was using hers and she was volatile when she was horny.

May. 4th, 2005 @ 12:17 pm After the War - Second Half
Here is the second half of Part 1 of "After the War".

Their days took on a comfortable sameness. Justin awoke as the sun rose and tended to his livestock, fed Raphael and talked with him for a while, then he returned to the house and stoked the fire if he had gone out. It was autumn yet but the days were cool and the nights chilly. When the fire was ready, he put on a pot of coffee and fixed breakfast, then woke Brian to eat if he hadn't already awakened. Justin could tell that it bothered Brian to be waited on, to have someone else wash his face and hands and then feed him like a baby but he was still very weak and tired easily. It would be a while before he could do these things for himself. Justin didn't mind and told him so and yet Brian fretted.

Here is the first half of Part 1 of "After the War", my new fic. Enjoy!

"I have to go," he said and there was naught else to say. Duty called and he would not turn aside to take an easier path. The things he believed in demanded he give a full accounting of himself and he would. And if it pained him to leave his beloved behind, he would learn to mask the pain. He was a soldier, or he would be by the time they headed down South. He was a soldier and he would hold himself as befitting a man of honor.

Going to have a ultrasound today. Yippee! What is it? You pass a certain age and your body begins planning insurgent attacks against you. First the back, then the knee, now the abdomen. I feel like a war-torn country. In any case, let's hope they figure out what's wrong.

On the plus side, I have been working on a new fic and I hope it'll be ready by this Sunday, barring any unforeseen medical issues.

Well, I just found out that Hitchhiker's Guide is also made by #5$@& Disney. Oh well, maybe I'll get a cheap copy of the book and call it a day. Besides, I'm on a diet and I could never resist movie theatre popcorn.

Actually, I'm not going anywhere. It was pointed out to me that I hadn't updated the livejournal since my first entry. Told you I was a newbie. I figured I'd wait until I had a new story to post but here goes.

My office furniture came and the place looks a hundred times better. I've gotten many compliments on it. Now if only my productivity and creativity would increase, I'd be on my way. At the moment, I'm freezing. The temperature dropped today in rainy Seattle and I'm cold. You'd think with two sweaters in my office, I'd put one of them on.

I probably am going to see Hitchhiker's Guide (source of the subject line) not because I think the film will be great but because I haven't been to the movies in so long, I figure I might as well give it a shot. I would have gone to see XXX: State of the Union but Ice Cube just doesn't have the growling, raw sexuality of Mr. Diesel. As dumb as XXX was, it was fun and it had a gratuitous shot of Vin Diesel half naked which is always, as Martha says, a good thing. I was going to go see The Pacifier with its QAF connection via Logan and Kegan but I really don't like Disney and I couldn't hand my money over to them. Also, I figured there wouldn't be any Vin Diesel nakedness.

This is my first time posting to my LJ. I don't even know why I decided to set up a live journal except that everyone seems to have one these days so I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon and set one up too.

Right now I'm in the middle of my office which has been stripped of furniture and is currently filled with boxes. I can't wait until my new furniture arrives tomorrow. Of course, then I'll have to unpack all the boxes I've just packed.

On the QAF front, I seemed to have gotten into an email tiff with someone over the QAF Primer that I posted on my website. I suppose I could have left well enough alone but, like Brian, I find it very difficult to back down from a challenge. Especially when I'm right. *lol* In any case, I decided not to respond to any more of her messages. One of the hazards of being out on the web, I guess.

After weeks of procrastinating and not being able to write anything about Brian and Justin, I whipped out a little story about them that was inspired by a Kenneth Cole bracelet and Guy de Maupassant's "The Necklace" (below). Response has been underwhelming. *lol* Well, that's it for today.

As it happened on a regular basis, Justin wasn't surprised to see Emmett rushing into the diner in a tizzy. Since Em was always good for an entertaining story or two, Justin pulled him into a booth, poured two glasses of water, put a couple of lemon bars on a plate, and joined his friend. "What's wrong? You miss the Early Bird sale at Torso again?"
